The GPS 60 is completely waterproof, with up to 28 hours battery life using two AA batteries, this new product will target the marine and outdoor recreation markets. The GPS 60 is a low-cost solution for land or marine navigation designed to provide precise GPS positioning using correction data obtained from the Wide Area Augmentation System (WAAS). The GPS 60 provides 1 MB of internal user memory, which is preloaded from the factory with worldwide cities. This 1 MB of memory can also be used for storing downloaded points of interest data from our MapSource Points of Interest CD-ROM. The GPS 60 provides separate serial and USB interfaces. Navigation instructions can be shared with repeaters, plotters and autopilots using NMEA protocols through the dedicated serial port. An alarm must be continuous until it is shut off. Product advertising and information is very misleading and wrong. I purchased the Garmin GPS 60 to get the anchor drag alarm, which product advertising and information says it has. This would never awaken a sleeping individual, and is consequently useless as an "ancor drag alarm". Disappointing for a company like Garmin. The so-called alarm gives one, and only one, barely audible " beep" and that is it. This clearly is not an "anchor drag alarm".
Have been unable to use the GPS to find out how many miles I've hiked on trails in the mountains because I don't understand the instructions.
Its been a great help and would recommend it to anyone who is starting out in geocaching. I use mine a lot to find geo-treasures and getting from point to point. I have enjoyed this product since the day it was put into my hands. My brother has one and he enjoys it very much and its a great help geting places.
It is kind of like a Timex watch, it takes a licking and keeps on ticking. It takes us to within a few feet of the hidden cache. Also it has been rained on and dropped several times. This little unit is awsome. I would recommend this unit to anyone. It is great. Husband and I started geocaching and after reading lots of reviews and getting suggestions from friends we settled on the Garmin 60. We have had great luck finding caches since we got the unit.
Pulls a signal better than my other two units. Picked this up at a great price (looks like it was on sale). and we love its use for Geocaching.
